Supply Chain Update?

Just curious if anyone has actual insight into the parts shortages and what our supply chain condition stands at? The rumors of a shutdown and/or optional Fridays seem to have settled down. Of course the no communication from management

Re: Supply Chain Update?

Dealer inventories are dropping.  If Toyota could build more they would. We are close to single digit days worth of dealer inventory.  The goal is 30 days.  My rough estimation is that we would have to build 20-30k rav4's over and above normal 8 hour production to get back to normal inventory.

Some news stories are mentioning that April will be tough because the chip stockpiles will run out by then.

My GL told all the TLs on my line that we are back to 9's and 10's in May.

Re: Supply Chain Update?

We have enough chips to finish this model of Rav. We are good to go at TMMC.

I heard that too. That was before the fire at the chip manufacturer though.

Really makes you wonder how we able to keep building, and with the rumors of going back to 9's and 10's, while other auto companies will be struggling.

Mind you I haven't looked at Toyota as a whole, maybe their cars and less popular  vehicles are taking a hit.

Re: Supply Chain Update?

TBCA Announcement we received a while back.

Posted: March 25 2021
Texas Storm Production Update

TBCA Team Members.

Recently we informed you of a Texas winter storm that dramatically impacted the petroleum industry in that region. All of the foam and plastics materials used not only by Toyota but many OEM suppliers throughout North American have been impacted due to this disruption in supply.

We are continuing to track the availability of raw materials and our supplier status on a daily basis. There are also daily discussions with our customer to coordinate deliveries and any problems.

Toyota and Toyota Boshoku as a strategic supplier are going to extremes to keep all truck and SUV lines going including Rav4 and Lexus RX. Raw material is also being sourced from other regions to keep our suppliers running. In addition, other vehicle production lines within Toyota North America have had shifts cancelled to conserve materials and keep our lines running. We are fortunate to produce parts for very popular vehicles in the Toyota lineup.

Our customer has made it clear to us that the expectation is that we continue to work with our suppliers to ensure no disruptions in part supply.

IF THE SITUATION CHANGES WE WILL DETERMINE OUR PLAN AND WILL COMMUNICATE IT QUICKLY.

Regards,
Andrew Martin, P. Eng.
Vice President
Toyota Boshoku Canada

Japan forced other Toyota plants in the US to send parts TMMC. Kentucky was the hardest hit in sending parts to Canada as sedan sales have dropped in both the Camry and ES300, ES450H and Avalon that they make there.
And also they have learned some lessons from the tsunami, to stock pile some parts.
